SharePoint Migration

Plan, test and run site, library and tenant moves with metadata, permissions and version history intact.

Who this is for

  • Organizations combining or separating Microsoft 365 tenants after an acquisition, merger or divestiture
  • Teams moving sites and libraries between tenants or within one tenant
  • Teams moving from on-premises SharePoint or file shares to SharePoint Online
  • IT groups that want expert hands on a first large migration instead of learning on production data

What you get

  • An inventory of what is moving, with a risk list and a recommended order
  • An identity mapping plan for users and groups that differ between source and target
  • A pilot run on a representative slice before anything large moves
  • The production copy, with metadata, permissions and version history preserved
  • An independent verification report that compares source and target in Excel
  • A cutover checklist and post-move checks, then a handover to your team

How it works

  1. 1

    Assess

Inventory the sites, libraries and lists, the sizes and limits involved, and the permissions and identity questions that will decide the approach.

  2. 2

    Plan

Agree the order of moves, the identity mapping, the cutover window and what gets rebuilt rather than copied.

  3. 3

    Pilot

Run a representative slice end to end, review the verification report, and fix what it shows before scaling up.

  4. 4

    Migrate

Run the production copies in the agreed order, using incremental runs to catch changes made since the first pass.

  5. 5

    Verify and hand over

Re-scan source and target independently, review differences with you, and hand over documentation and checks before the source is retired.

What a typical engagement looks like

Scope
One or more sites, libraries or lists moving between sites or tenants, sometimes with Microsoft Forms and Power Automate flows alongside.
Shape of the work
An assessment and plan, a pilot, production runs in the agreed order, and a verification pass, scheduled around a cutover window that works for your business.
What you keep
A migration plan, run records, the verification workbook and a short checklist your team can reuse.

What drives the cost

These are the factors that move the estimate for this kind of work.

  • The number of sites and libraries and the volume of content
  • Cross-tenant identity mapping: how many users and groups differ between source and target
  • How much permission and version history has to be preserved
  • Forms, flows and other items that must be rebuilt instead of copied
  • Cutover windows and how much of the move must happen outside business hours
  • The source system, for example on-premises SharePoint or a file share

Common questions

Which migration tools do you use?

We go with the best tool for the job, whether it is ours or not. SharePoint Smart Copy, our free, open-source Windows tool, copies between sites and between tenants and preserves metadata, permissions and version history, and we use it when it fits. If another tool is the better choice for your project, we use that and say so during the assessment.

How do you check that the copy is correct?

We verify the result independently of the copy itself. When we use Smart Copy, its Verify button runs an independent Verification Report that re-scans source and target and exports an Excel workbook of what matches. Most files are compared by content hash, and Office and Outlook files are compared by modified date, with an optional Deep Verify that compares their contents.

Can you move Microsoft Forms and Power Automate flows too?

Yes. We use the Forms Copy and Flow Rewriter companions where they fit, and test the results. Some connections still need to be re-authorized by their owners in the new tenant.

Can we run it ourselves with the free tool?

Many teams can. The tool and its install guides are free and open source. This service is for teams that want expert planning, a pilot and verification, or who are moving a lot of content on a deadline.

How is the work priced?

We start with an assessment and then quote the work as a scoped project. The factors above are what move the estimate. Tell us what you are moving and we will take it from there.
